With over twenty years of professional experience, Sara is an expert at recognizing and responding to the unique character of each site. She has worked in urban, suburban and rural areas, located in chaparral, sub-tropical, coastal, and inland environments. She understands both client and community needs, incorporating individual perspectives into the overall social and community context. Her interest and experience with designing projects in a range of climates and geographical areas gives her a unique ability to balance the values and requirements of both development and environment.
At Satre Associates, Sara currently serves as project manager and lead designer, working in concert with owners, regulatory agencies, and consultant team members. Her areas of expertise include parks and open spaces, recreation facilities, schools, affordable housing, medical facilities, and environmental interpretation. Her design focus is enhanced by her ability to coordinate the many facets of a project, including land use regulations, environmental context, social climate, accessibility, and creative stormwater management.
As an adjunct faculty member at the University of Oregon's Department of Landscape Architecture, Sara periodically teaches design studios, core curriculum components of the program. These are frequently linked to her professional work, and have included studies of the West Eugene Wetlands, planning and design of Eugene's Wetlands Environmental Education Center, and the design of parks for Bend Metro and Willamalane Parks and Recreation Districts.
At The Sea Ranch in coastal northern California, Sara was responsible for administering the Sea Ranch Architectural Design Review Committee, facilitating community planning programs, as well as reviewing and overseeing environmental management projects.
